“Seldom did we look at character building as something desirable in itself, something we would like to strive for whether our instinctual needs were met or not,” (72).
Hello, my name is Ann Kroger. Welcome to my website. A while ago, at the urging of one of my friends, I began this blog. I had 7 years then. I have 14 years now. With that said,Β I claim no secret wisdom. I am neither a Big Book Thumper nor a Old Timer. I’ve just been sober long enough to know I have a lot more to learn, and this blog is my attempt at doing that. I hope you will join me on this continued path of understanding addiction and recovery.
I haven’t posted in awhile. I used to post every week, but I returned back to school- first to get my undergraduate, then my master’s degree, and now my PhD (it’s crazy, huh?). I do read comments, though, when they are left for me, and I will respond if you email me. I know we are living in kinda a crazy time, so if you are struggling with being quarantined or finding yourself a little stir crazy, do not hesitate to reach out.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Ann G. Kroger

Hello, Ann! I was looking for your email address on here but couldn’t find it. I would love to connect when you’re free!

Thank you. I wrote these years ago, but I leave then up because people are still visiting my site. I’m glad you found it. Thank you for commenting!

Ann, I like the idea and am glad you have the site up. However, would hope that you took a less identifying approach, especially when you are mentioning that you are member of AA.

Then don’t read this blog. YAY! Problem solved. When you do a blog, you can do a “less identifying approach, especially when you are mentioning that you are a member of AA.” Nice reminder that it’s such a gift to focus on the rewards and grace, rather than how it’s not quite good enough. Hello regulated nervous system when I do that… Thank you so much for the reminder.

Hi Brews and Anonymous,
I didn’t realize anyone was commenting on this page. I’m pretty open about why I break my anonymity. I am currently working on writing a book. Imagine when that comes out with my name. π

Good morning! In my 13 years of sobriety, I have been through the 12 Steps of AA, NA, Alanon, ACA, OA…..I guess once wasnβt enough π. I sponsor women in all of these programs & find out more about myself as years go by. I feel very Blessed to have been introduced to each program, even if I had to fall on my face first to get here. I am forever grateful for a solution to living a better life without self destructive behavior. I continue to work on myself with all the tools given me as recovery has given me peace, serenity & solutions. π€

Hi Shirley,
I am sorry I missed this comment when you posted it. Thank you so much for commenting. It really is a miracle to think that all these step are interconnected. I definitely know that I have parts of me that bleed over into other compulsive behavior and identities. I tried OA, but I found the lines too blurry somehow. I like that AA is mostly clean cut– don’t drink and don’t die. I hope you are doing well. Pease reach out again.

That’s awesome. I really do not hear of many people in the 7-8 year range. I guess so many drop off at five. Do you have any recommendations or suggestions for new comers and old alike?
